January 25th 1969, Pink Floyd appeared at the Sixty Nine Club, Royal York Hotel, Ryde, Isle of Wight, England. Support band was The Cherokees, who had had a minor hit single in 1964 with Seven Golden Daffodils produced by Mickie Most. They later changed their name to New York Public Library.

January 24th 1947, Born on this day, Warren Zevon, singer, songwriter. Zevon had played piano with The Everly Brothers, and during his career recorded over 15 solo albums. Well known for his 1978 single ‘Werewolves Of London’. Zevon died on September 7th 2003.

23rd Jan 1978, Terry Kath, guitarist with Chicago accidentally shot himself dead while cleaning (with what he believed) was an unloaded gun. Kath’s last words were « Don’t worry it’s not loaded » as he put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. The guitarist and singer was killed instantly.

January 23rd 1990, Allen Collins guitarist from Lynyrd Skynyrd died of pneumonia after being ill for several months. Collins who was one of the founding members also co-wrote most of the band’s songs (including Free Bird), with late front man Ronnie Van Zant.
